Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors

About SHUMC

Southern Heights United Methodist Church began as Michigan Avenue Methodist Church when a group from the First Methodist Church wished to establish a mission church.  The original church building (located at the intersection of 10th and Michigan) was chartered in 1888.  It was a "neighborhood church" that didn't have any room to expand if needed.

In 1969, we built our current building (and changed our name) and moved to our current location on five acres on the south end of town.  An additional acre was purchased in 1991 giving us plenty of room to expand as needed.

In March of 2004, a NEW Muncie Road was constructed and since that time we have seen our neighborhood change dramatically.  Where once stood woods and pastures are now multiple new housing developments.  We recently paved our parking lot, and have improved our visibility with a new sign.  We have new, glass front doors and future plans include a "cross and flame" above the front doors.  We are making room for you, and we hope you will join us as we continue to strive to live our lives faithfully!
